Australian Society For Limnology

Abstract Submission

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION HAS NOW CLOSED

Types of presentations at the 6th Australian Streams Management are as follows:
(All presenters will be asked to submit a full paper for inclusion in the Conference Proceedings)

Oral Presentation - Oral Presenters will be given a 20 minute speaking slot (including question time)
They will give a talk on their submitted paper.
Speed Dating - Speed Dating presenters will be given 6 minutes to talk about their paper - or you could talk about an idea, a passion, an extreme experience, or anything else that vaguely relates to aquatic systems and the conference theme.  Mime, poetry or dance are welcome!   After several Speed Dating presenters have given their 6 minute presentations, then everybody mills around and has a personal or group discussion with the presenters about their fantastic ideas.
Poster Presentation - Poster Presenters will be asked to bring along a poster of their work (100 cm x 120 cm). This will be displayed for the duration of the conference and a poster session will take place on Monday Night.
On the Monday evening the poster presenters will be asked to stand by their poster so delegates can come and discuss the poster with the author.

Please note: When you submit your abstract, you will be asked to nominate the sort of presentation that you want to give: poster, oral presentation, or speed dating.   Now, we want everybody to be as fully engaged in this conference as possible.  This means that you are welcome to do more than one thing.  You can submit an abstract for a talk, a speed date, AND a poster, if you want!   The only constraint is that you can only do one of each thing (e.g. just one oral presentation each).  The result of this liberal view may be too many sessions. If that looks like being the case, then we will cut things back. But for now, consider a few options!

Key Dates regarding your paper/presentation:
31 May 2011 - Abstract submission closes
30 June - Notifications will be sent out
9 September - Full papers are due

How to submit an abstract
The first step is to record your personal details on your own dashboard . If you have already completed it for your registration or another ASN event, you will not have to repeat this, just login to your dashboard .
As you complete any section of the dashboard , you will receive a confirmation email.
You can use your email and password to access your abstract submission at any time, and can edit it and observe its selection status from your dashboard.
The presenting author must be the person submitting the abstract and they must do this from their own dashboard .
You can cut and paste your abstract in several simple steps. The benefits of this system are many but include:
i. Allowing you to preview your abstract and make modifications to your satisfaction.
ii. Ensuring you know your lodgement is completed as you will receive an immediate email confirmation
iii. Ensuring accurate indexing of all authors in the abstract book
iv. Ensuring consistent presentation of all abstracts in the proceedings (overarching formatting is imposed).

BEFORE YOU START

* Are you using one of the following browsers
INTERNET EXPLORER (ver 5.5 or newer)
NETSCAPE (ver 7.4 or newer) or
MOZILLA (ver 1.3 or newer)
If not the screen will tell you if it detects you are using the wrong software and you would be better to change to a computer with one of them installed.
* Have you got your abstract open and running on your own computer? you need to be able to cut and paste it onto the web. (Note that keypad short cuts do not work with Mozilla, you need to use the menu, edit, paste command to paste in text to your submission).
* Is your abstract text less than 300 words it will not allow you to paste larger submissions. The word count does NOT include your title, authoring or cited references
* Have you got a table in your abstract? If you have, it may copy and paste straight into the submission. This is likely if you have used the Times New Roman font and it is not physically large (try and keep it less than 12 cm wide on an A4 sheet). Otherwise you should save a copy of your table as an image file on your own computer
first and upload that. (It should be a .tif .gif .png or .jpg file)
WHEN YOU'VE FINISHED THE SUBMISSION
As long as you haven't incorrectly filled your own email address, you will get an immediate confirmation which includes a .pdf copy of your submission for your records as shown on the last screen of the lodgement page
YES - YOU CAN MAKE CHANGES AFTER YOU HAVE SUBMITTED!!
Your confirmation email will have instructions on how to go back and edit your work or make small changes. This will remain open and possible until the program committee allocates your work to the program.
ACCEPTANCE NOTIFICATION
Notification of programming decisions will come from the secretariat shortly after the expiry of deadlines and the working program will be posted to the web site. It will also appear on your own dashboard . The notification will include specific presentation instructions but in the interim, those preparing posters should note the maximum size allowed is 100cm wide by 120cm deep. Velcro will be available to fix the poster to the boards. Computer data projection is the preferred presentation method for orals.
WEB PUBLISHING
A couple of weeks before the meeting, the final program will be published to this web page along with hyperlinks 0to the abstracts.
